Thoughts on what this could be on 6mo son and should I get it looked at today?

He has had it for a couple of days but seems to have gotten worse, now the lighter colour on the inside

I would obviously make a GP appt first thing tomorrow, however we go away tomorrow morning!! I don’t think a pharmacist would advise us as he is 6mo?

I don’t warrant it urgent and feel bad going to urgent care too 🤔 he is grumpy and has cough/snots (had croup as his older sister had it last weekend). No temp but very very bad sleep - I’m wondering if it’s itchy! Have had aveeno dermexa on it and hydromol as my Mum said looks like eczema, but obviously no idea if they’re working as he can’t tell me!

he also has slight, small patches on his face/chin which I thought was from so much drool, which is pretty standard for this age

I can’t see a photo but at 6mths and the fact you’re wondering if you should get him seen today- then yes you should. It would be horrible if something was causing him discomfort and a simple trip to an out of hrs GP could result in a prescription that could provide some relief for whatever is bothering him.

I think the photo is still under review - yes I think the same, we don’t have out of hours GP so will have to be a 111 call and they’ll send us to urgent care (no drop in centres round here anymore either!) it’s frustrating as my kids always seem unwell on a weekend! Then end up sitting in urgent care with loads of poorly people and exposed to more germs 😩
He is constantly poorly, so I guess I’m looking for reassurance that I’m not overreacting if I call 111

You’re not overreacting- just using the resources available to ensure your baby gets some relief from whatever is bothering him. It’s not your fault there are no out of hrs services in your area- that is awful by the way- would get onto your local MP about that at some point.

Just a thought- you can get anti itch cream or Germolene with is both antiseptic and has anaesthetic properties too- so alleviates itching if it’s that what is bothering him. Just that you might want to get him seen first.

I can see photos now- it’s not ringworm is it?
Do a reverse image search on google.

I pondered ringworm too

Favouritefruits · 14/06/2026 09:29

It looks like a bit of dry skin but I’d definitely go to the pharmacy to have it looked at as it kind of looks a little bit like ringworm too. The pharmacist will be your first port of call.

Thanks everyone - I rang 111 for an out of hours appt, told us to go to urgent care at some point today to have him checked. Explained we’re away tomorrow. But also it would be a slight peace of mind them checking his chest & ears at the same time as he was sooo upset last night. We could not settle him - not even calpol/nurofen!!

Poor little fella- I hope he feels better soon.

BessieBye · 14/06/2026 09:40

Thank you - he has had at least one illness a month since birth. I’d be concerned about his immunity, but he was hospitalised for 3 weeks back in February when he was 9weeks old and had immunology tests - all clear! I guess it’s big sister bringing home germs from Reception!

How is he today op?

BessieBye · 16/06/2026 09:24

He is much better thank you! The Dr at urgent care believes it to be eczema, so been applying the emollient and I hope if he was uncomfortable with it, he’s now feeling some relief!

im glad I took him for peace of mind 😊
