Child Side Glancing

Hi,

3 year old side glances, when watching tv sometimes. If she is like running away from me and then I call and she looks back at me. When she is concentrating on a conversation. I noticed she did when she was a baby but we thought I t was a habit. I feel like I catch myself doing it sometimes. Any experience in this. I have booked a dr appointment just to see what’s going on. There are not other development delays.

Thank you

No advice but I do this and always have. I only ever watch TV from the side and if I'm looking at people in a play or show, I do the same. I've trained myself to look at people in conversation so I don't look rude. No idea why I do it, it's just comfortable and feels natural. Over the years some people have noticed, but it's never been an issue / caused any problems - I'm in my 40s now.

My older brother does it, always has. He’s very smart (we’re both engineers) and an elite athlete. Like @Cakeandslippers, he trained himself to do it less as an adult. I hope this helps you not to stress too much, @mummyonboard2020.

Yes I I feel like I do it too. But I think because a kid looks cute doing it we are picking up on it a lot. Thank you

My daughter does this and has since a very young age. She had hearing and visual tests as a toddler as a result. She does have a slight astigmatism but otherwise perfect vision as a teen.

I wish I’d taken her to a cranial osteopath as a child as I now suspect she had neck tension from birth, but I have never had feedback on that theory from anyone with medical training. You might try a cranial osteopath to see if she is carrying neck or cranial tension.

My DD does this and is Autistic I was told it’s probably because she’s checking on how to react appropriately to whatever is on screen.

That’s interesting as I do notice my little one favours one side, did your daughters get better over time. Thank you
