Minor cut! With pic

Hi, I have been known to over worry about bumps/ bruises/ cuts and the like and also to doubt myself but I’m just getting a second opinion on this one.
11 year old has got a cut on his toe and it bled a bit but has quickly stopped. I think he’s somehow managed to peel skin a little but it’s gone back down. I have cleaned and put a decent plaster on it and he’s having a lie down. From this pic there doesn’t seem need to be checked does there? Have I done enough?

Why does he need a lie down?

extrabeans · 07/06/2026 11:48

Looks absolutely fine 🙂

sight of blood, he’s oblivious to pain but the claret makes him feel iffy bless him

Personally, I’d leave the plaster off whist he’s in the house (as long as it’s stopped bleeding). It will heal faster if it’s dry ). I’d clean it/spray with wound cleaner before bed and then check in the morning.
I’d plaster it up for school so socks/shoes don’t rub.

Dont panic, it looks little more than a graze, am slightly amused at him having rest though, even though it probably stings a bit!

ETA: I typed this before I saw your post about blood making him feel iffy.

🤣that’s ok he’s got great humour about it. He’s very steely about mistakes things but randomly blood sends him a bit queasy

Edited

Thinking has changed on this - it's now considered better to keep cuts and wounds moist to promote healing rather than letting them dry out / scab over.

Perfect.
You’ve cleaned it and applied a plaster. 99% of the time a superficial flap like that will attach back down on its own.
Cover for comfort and protection as he needs. Calpol if it’s hurts (toes can be sensitive ).
Well done!

Clean it. Put a plaster on it. Get on with whatever he needs to do.

Thanks all. I’m a first aider as well and can deal with most things but when it’s my own kids for some reason logic goes out the window. I had a poker face on, he had no idea 😆
have a lovely rest of Sunday

@extrabeans- thank you. I should have prefaced saying I know that’s not current guidelines, but it’s always worked for me and mine.

Yeah I still do it too - old habits die hard 😁
