The sun cream battle - kids, OHs... Anyone else feel the pain? ☀️🤯

Tell me about your sun protection routines! Painful? Top tips? It's a struggle in our household, especially as OH is very relaxed towards it, only really thinking about it when he's taking the kids out in a 30°+ heatwave. What are your thresholds for cream and hat, and how do you get everyone on board?! Any other protective measures you take?

We are all pale skinned red heads with family history of skin cancer. So if the sun is out we have suncream and hats. I keep suncream and spare hats everywhere hall, car, bags to avoid getting caught out.
But people who tan laugh at my spf50 in Ireland in May. So its been really hard to keep the kids on side, especially as young teens. I owe TikTok a favour for turning DD from a spf hater to an expert!

I have an app on my phone that shows the UV strength. If it’s low I don’t use suncream or a hat, moderate we use suncream and hat and if it’s high we aren’t out in the sun! Both of us have the same app on our phones and agreed that these are our thresholds.

Ooh, what's the app? TIA!

It’s called UV Index! I really love how it takes the guess work out of it!

I am the fairest ever with red hair and I didn’t burn on holiday last year but DH did and he is darker! Being lapse with the cream!
He does understand the importance of the kids wearing it though. We are all massive poor/water/sports fans so it has to be reapplied regularly. It can be done.

I didn't have too many issues but I did find that kids sometimes like roll-on suncream if they don't like having cream spread on them. Worth a try if your kids are reluctant.i think Aldi does a factor 50 one.
