7 week cough hell. HELP

My just turned 10 month old has had a cough for 7 weeks now. We've been to the doctors multiple times in that 7 weeks and had him checked out and keep being told his lungs are clear, babies can get viral infections back to back, the cough is normal, there's nothing we can do apart from ride it out.

At this point, you can't tell me that having a cough for 7 weeks thats making him sick and clearly causing him pain is normal and that theres absolutely nothing we can do to help him.

So, mums of the internet, is there anything i can do to actually ease the cough and help his throat because Calpol isn't cutting it but we need something 😭

Pertussis and Mycoplasma pneumoniae can both cause 100 day coughs. I don't have much advice, only sympathy - this was me and my toddler in January and February. Tesco do some kind of vitamin C cough syrup. Once your baby is a year, they can have honey and lemon, which IS soothing and recommended by GPs. You can give saline drops if they are congested, take them out into cooler night air if coughing at night and they sound raspy. Otherwise time will fix it, or you have to go back to the GP :(

@OtterMummy2024 thank you will look at the cough syrup. We're seeing the health visitor tomorrow for his assessment so will see if they have any suggestions. We do saline spray and he's got cool humidifier in his room. Just feel so bad for him ☹️

I have actually had exactly the same thing. 7 weeks in now. My cough was that bad at one point that I couldn’t speak without a huge coughing fit. I had two courses of antibiotics and two courses of steroids and both hi no touched it. I was told lungs were clear too. I have been taking cyclizine and it has been the only thing that has helped a little (I’m taking it in liquid form, it’s actually a children’s one but I’m taking the adult dose).

im pretty sure I have post nasal drip which is what’s causing the continuous coughing and constant nose blowing. It’s hayfever season and it’s really bad this year so wondering if that’s playing a part. Might be worth speaking to your little ones GP and asking for some antihistamines and seeing if that helps!

My son had this, a horrible nighttime cough which made him sick every night. Horrendous, he had it for two months. GP said some babies just have viruses and this is how they are sometimes, I also didn't buy it but it did eventually end. The only thing that helped was saline drops in his nose before bed 🤷he was 10 months at the time

Is it definitely an infection cough? I’d want to ask if they could be sure it’s not allergies or asthma.

re what a PP said about mycoplasma pneumoniae - my DC had atypical pneumonia caused by this and needed a week’s antibiotics but we only got it diagnosed via a chest x-ray at A&E, so if you’re worried about your DC’s breathing at any point I wouldn’t hesitate to take them in.

Thanks for your insights everyone!
Doctor did say antihistamines could help because it targets those problem areas, but didnt seem interested in us actually taking that course of action. They ruled out allergies for pet hair and mold but i did start trying to treat it as if it was a dust allergy but symptoms didnt clear in any way. Said they wont diagnose with asthma at this age, can't remember their reasoning but since the inhaler hasn't helped either i would assume its not that. We're still doing saline drops although he gets so upset with me doing them it wont be helping the snot production! 🤦🏻‍♀️
