Toddler keeps randomly vomiting

DD2 18 months has had a few random episodes of vomiting recently and I’m trying to work out what’s going on.

about 3 weeks ago, I got a call from nursery to say she had been sick everywhere. Brought her home, she did have a cold, she seemed fine no more vomiting and no one else sick in the house.

then 2 weeks ago on holiday she had a bit of a temp and was sick a small amount once 30 minutes after eating banana and yoghurt

on the weekend just gone, she was sick a very small amount once but not even a sound and was after swallowing a small bit of pool water

today I got another call from nursery to say she had been sick everywhere again. They said she was fine before and after, had just started eating some banana when it happened, but that she did have a loose poo this morning (she’s had loose poos since we came back from our holiday).

does this sound like a fresh bug? A toddler who has a sensitive stomach and vomits randomly? Or something lingering from the holiday? Or something else entirely?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Could it be connected with the banana?

Lalarara10 · 28/05/2026 11:02

Possibly but she has banana every day also without vomiting

My eldest used to vomit randomly. This carried on until she was 8 or 9. Normally happened when she was exhausted (she was about Year 3 until she managed to get to the end of term without a vomiting incident), but sometimes it happened just because…. She grew out of it, and as a young adult is no more vomity than anyone else.

I’d it only in the morning? If so go to GP. Especially if it’s effortless.

Mine pukes whenever he has a bad cold, the phlegm etc catching in his throat seems to make him gag and vom. Usually happens in the morning after breakfast when it’s probably not had chance to clear through a bit.

My son was similar the vomiting got worse along with other illnesses, he was subsequently diagnosed as coeliac. Might be worth a check with the GP

When this happened with my daughter it turned out she had a bad ear infection that was throwing her balance off and making her feel sick. We didn't realise until the eardrum ruptured and a load of gunk came out.

Allergies? Second PP if it’s only in the mornings see the doctor

Lalarara10 · 28/05/2026 14:57

No today was the morning but every other time has been afternoon/evening but will still keep an eye. Think it’s probably worth taking her to the GP. She has always been a sicky child and has always randomly vomited if she eats too much or has a cold but it’s definitely happened more in the last 3 weeks.

She has also recently had her ears checked and had a CT scan of her brain back in January after a fall so fingers crossed that’s all okay

Coeliac was the case with my granddaughter along with chronic constipation.

Lalarara10 · 28/05/2026 15:14

She does tend to get constipated easily. Thank you I’ll defo bring that up with my GP
