How do I tell whether DS is recovering or not when it's so hot

18 month old DS had fever all day Saturday, then was sick in the night, and sick again a few more times on Sunday and early hours Monday, temperature seemed to improve. The vomiting has completely stopped and he's supposed to be going back to nursery tomorrow per the 48h rule. He's grumpy and sweaty though and I've checked his temp periodically with an infra red thermometer, and it's showing red and yellow temps occasionally but when I check his armpit it's always 36.something on that one. Can a hot room distort a forehead thermometer? I try to do it in the shade but it's 27 degrees in the house. And normally I can tell if he's getting better because he is in a better mood and gets his energy back, but he's kinda acting like anybody would act in a heatwave. I feel uneasy not knowing whether or not he's completely better and whether it's okay for him to go to nursery tomorrow!

The forehead ones are crap. The underarm digital one is the way to go, and if it's reading 36C then he's fine. He's just grumpy and feeling hot, but isn't actually feverish.

I’d try and keep him home for another day while it’s still hot if you can (is there another parent you can share the leave from work with?) It’s miserable when it’s hot and even if he’s over the worst he’s probably not feeling great if recovering from illness in this heat.

If it’s really important he goes in id make sure he’s drinking lots and having lots of wet nappies before I sent him.
