Child with allergies

My eldest, dd9 has sneezed every day for years. In the wintertime we were putting it down to continuous colds. But each year as summer came round it never got better. Even as a newborn baby she was extremely sniffly. I'm wondering if anyone else's child is in the same boat? We know that she suffers from hay-fever in the summer badly. But shouldn't that only be when the pollen count is high? I'm getting worried now as it doesn't seem normal to me. I honestly don't remember a day where she hasn't sneezed. She says that she sneezes daily in school too so it's not something in our house alone. I was thinkimg it might have been dust. Shouldn't allergies be seasonal or can they be year round?

Pollen can affect you year round depending on which ones you are allergic to. Ds very allergic to tree pollen and dust mites. He was seen by an allergy specialist at the hospital and is allergic to a number of things. Anti histamines are a good way to help but worth seeing gp if it is affecting her badly.

I have one who was allergic all year round (weirdly, now she is late teens, much better). Dust, pollen ... so yeah, absolutely possible. Have a chat with a GP on how best to manage.

It could be dust. My hayfever is worst in March and so I start taking a daily antihistamine in January and I really keeps it under control.

My dd takes antihistamine every day (on prescription).

Another thing to check is bedding, pillows and matresses. How old are they and what are they made of?
I was always waking with a blocked nose, and switched from a down duvet to a wool one and it resolved.

Yes, wool, pillows and don’t hang her bedding outside.

My DS is allergic to a number of things including various types of pollen, dust, animals and so sneezes all year round. He takes a daily antihistamine prescribed by allergy specialist and it really helps. He's also been prescribed a nasal spray for the particularly bad periods. So it's defintely possible to have year round allergies.

Thank you all. My dh suffers from hayfever but usually in the summer months so I presumed she would be the same. We got her a brand new bed, mattress, pillows & sets but unfortunately it didn't make any difference. I will definitely look into an allergist. Our house is old so it could well be dust. We have high ceilings which are unreachable.

You can be allergic to dustmites all year round. Or if you have pets she could be allergic to them.
