Would you get this checked out after a fall?

Would you go to a&e for this? My first instinct was no but now I'm second guessing myself...

4yo face planned on some stones at the park yesterday, had some nasty grazes and a nose bleed. I have cleaned the open wounds and he wore a dressing to bed last night to try and stop it from bleeding again as it did take around 20 minutes to get it to stop. He handled it very well with little crying but was shaking for some time which I think was the shock.

He's been happy playing and eating today, only complaining it hurts on occasion (although he's never been the type to complain). Should I just carry on monitoring him or would you take him to get checked out?

Would I go to A&E for a graze no, if you’re concerned walk to your local pharmacy get them to take a look.

I'd probably contact a pharmacist or practice nurse at your GP surgery for advice on the appropriate dressings etc but wouldn't be going to minor injuries/ A&E as long as it wasn't causing pain

I agree. I’d be mindful of wanting to have the right dressings on it to try and avoid a scar, given that it’s on his face.

Minor injuries, especially for teeth and to ensure no dirt stilein the grazes.

ShetlandishMum · Yesterday 14:31

No.

Ouch! Yeah, that's bound to be hurting him so even though you say he's not one to complain, it's no wonder he's mentioning it to you. The fact that he's talking about it is a good sign on an emotional level, as it shows he will let you know when he's experiencing pain. But aside from all of that, no need to second-guess yourself. Sounds like you've done a great job getting him cleaned up and cuddled. The shaking will have been a normal response of his nervous system to the shock, as you said. I'd just check at bath-time later that all the wounds are clean. Hope you're ok too - these things can be a shock for as too, can't they! X

No. Id make sure it was kept clean and use calpol for pain

catipuss · Yesterday 14:42

Are you sure his nose isn't damaged? If it is it might affect the shape of his nose later in life, that would be the thing I would want checked out, how heavily did he fall?

CornishPorsche · Yesterday 14:46

No. It's a shallow graze. Keep it clean and he'll be fine.

marmitegirl01 · Yesterday 14:51

My daughter did the same. No A&E. Was immortalised in school photos that week. Her Rudolph era !

Poor lad. It looks superficial so as long as he isn't complaining of a headache or having more nose bleeds, just keep it clean and let him show off his war wounds to all his pals at school.
