Just one tooth extracted for braces for 17-year-old son?

My 17 year old son has resisted braces for years... but now has agreed while still an option with the NHS. The orthodontist suggested 4 teeth out which my son is adamant he will not do. So the other option that is possible for the lower jaw where the crowding is severe is to have just one tooth out. I don't think it will be too obvious that the midline doesn't quite align and my son isn't bothered about having perfect teeth but I think they would be easier to keep clean if there was a bit more space. Has anyone had this experience and was it ok visually and in terms of how it affects bite? Thank you!

My Dd has 3 bottom teeth (born that way) You would never know to look at her. She had 4 teeth taken out at the top and then top and bottom braces to straighten everything out and alter the angle of her teeth as they all sloped inwards, slightly. Her teeth are beautiful now.

Removing just one tooth may not affect the appearance too much, especially if your son is not concerned with perfect alignment. It’s worth checking with the orthodontist if it will impact his bite or long-term dental health.
