Is it normal for a 7 year old girl to have BO?

That’s about it really. My DD has stinky a pits. They get cleaned every evening during bath time, but on hot days like today they smell.

Should we be concerned?

I don’t remember having a smell until i was 12?

Thanks

By seven my daughter had smelly pits, spots and the start of pubic hair. Investigations showed early adrenarche. We were told puberty blockers were an option but chose at that point to watch and monitor. Fortunately it slowed down. She's almost 12 now and is back within normal development range for her age. Early adrenarche is quite common but doesn't always go on to precocious puberty.

Well it's not abnormal.

It just depends on their hormones.

If there are other signs it could be precocious puberty and you'll need to see a GP. Otherwise make sure that she's washing thoroughly and also drying really well, particularly if she still has a bit of puppy fat. Moisture makes it all worse.

My daughter developed BO aged 8. I was horrified at the time but it turned out to be completely normal. Started her periods aged 13. Don’t worry!

My dd is the same at 7 (started at 6)

The doc said she is fine and this happens - i just stick deodorant on her as part of her routine bless her - she even does it herself (she is autistic so this is a big deal)

Take her to buy some fun deodorant and maybe a cheap perfume - sol de janiero for example xx

My DD started this around 5/6. She went through an NHS referral at 7 and we were also told it was adrenarche, not puberty - these are 2 separate developmental stages but often overlap. Puberty includes breast development and onset of periods, whereas body hair and body odour are governed by adrenarche. In our case it was the latter, daughter still isn’t in puberty now at 10
despite our concerns. We wash her armpits every morning with a clean hot flannel and simple soap then use a natural deodorant (like fresh or wild).

thanks so much for the replies everyone. I appreciate them 😊 i’ll keep a watching eye and look at some deodorant options.

I’ve read on MN that it’s better to use soap for washing (as opposed to gel). I hope everything clears up shortly.
