Anyone seen this before? 🤢

Has anyone experienced anything like this before? It’s on my 5 year olds toe. It started as a black mark that we thought was a verruca and have been applying bazuka gel.
It has got bigger and bigger so went to the GP today who didn’t know what it was and has referred us to dermatology.
I just wondered if anyone had any ideas?
TIA

Is it a wart? Was it blackened before you started applying the treatment? Does it cause pain?

OneBusyFinch · 24/04/2026 22:26

If you post this in sporner corner section, you might get some help OP

decafisnotthesame · 24/04/2026 22:29

I thought a wart/verruca but the doctor said he’s not sure it is.
I’ll try find a picture of before the cream. Not sure if I still have it.
It doesn’t cause pain in shoes as it sort of sits in the gap between toes. He yelps if we try touch it and says it hurts

I had never heard of sporner corner but will give it a try, thanks. Hoping I don’t just get a load of “pull it off” etc replies… he’s 5 after all so I can’t attack it with tweezers or anything!!

It does look wart-like. A podiatrist could advise and treat. It wouldn't cost the earth and no long wait for an appointment.

Thanks for commenting. I’ve googled this and it’s not at all red and isn’t moist/shiny so I’m not sure it is this. I’ll keep it in mind though. Thank you

That could be a good idea actually if it’s a long wait for an appointment. The doctor said to stop applying the bazuka gel so I’ll see if anything changes in the next few days and look into local podiatrists

I think it’s the shape and the way it sits on top of the skin that makes it look like a pyogenic granuloma. Don’t think they are always moist or shiny but just a thought! Easily treated if it is one though !

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 24/04/2026 23:24

Dunno but I'd be getting tweezers and pulling it out when he's asleep!

FlapperFlamingo · 24/04/2026 23:54

I suggest a dilated Pore of Winer, a benign, large skin pore resembling a, deep blackhead filled with keratin. It is often described as a single, large, open pore that may refill. Suggestion from google lens.

Thanks. Yes does look a bit like that on Google images. I’ll look into it a bit more and keep it in mind

Oh ok I’ll do some more research. It was just the google summary that said red and shiny. Thanks for your help and good to know it’s easily treated

Haha he’s a light sleeper or I might try. Although it’s so big now I’d be worried about infection. When we have been allowed to touch it although it moves a bit left to right it is very firmly attached

It does look like a verruca/wart to me. Hope you get it sorted soon!

Treebere · 25/04/2026 07:35

My 4 year old had almost exact same. We’d been treating a verruca with bazuka and it fell off about a week after looking like that, completely healed underneath.

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 25/04/2026 07:37

Pore of winer wouldn’t be sore.
I think verucca, and it will fall out soon. However, follow the GP’s advice not anyone here 😅

And I too would be hard pressed not to pull that off after a long bath.

Spaghettea · 25/04/2026 07:40

A podiatrist will sort it much faster than the NHS.

Oh let’s hope that happens here then. It does seem like it’s been growing outwards like it wants to come out. The GP told us to stop using bazuka though so no idea what will happen now

Our GP told us to keep going with the bazuka which we did and that was when it fell off, a few days later. I wonder if the height of ours was due to the layers of bazuka? Could yours be the same? Either way, hope it’s resolves soon. Please update!

zurigo · 26/04/2026 19:42

IME doctors are absolutely useless with anything skin-related. Definitely go and see a podiatrist - around here you can get an appointment within a week. If they can't help then go to a dermatologist.

Thanks. I have actually started the bazuka again tonight. It says it forms a barrier to stop it spreading so if it is a verruca I don’t want to take the risk that we haven’t been preventing it spreading to other areas / other family members. I will update if there are any changes to it!

I hadn’t even thought about podiatrist so I’m going to try get an appointment for after school this week if I can

Good, do that.

Please let us know how things go.

I think that’s a great idea. As pp says, the waiting lists for routine (non-emergency) dermatology appointments are very long, up to a year.
