Day 4 of high fever…help!!!

Anybody else in the same boat recently?
Drs are adamant it’s viral but this is day 4 of an on average 39 degree fever 🥵 Spiked at 40.1 Wednesday evening along with a febrile convulsion and we thought we had turned a corner yesterday as had been down below 37 all day but crept back up at night and was 39.3 just recently.
When does it end !! We’re all exhausted and poor thing is so uncomfortable when it’s high

How old is your child? DS as a toddler would catch nursery bugs all the time and often it was a 5 day fever. Once it was 8 days! They were all viral so just took time to recover. Going through it was awful. What makes you think it could be something more sinister?

Are they drinking and weeing? Does the temperature respond to nurofen/calpol? Any thing else worrying? I wouldn’t have even thought about seeing the dr until after day 5.

The trend is downwards if your DC had a normal temp during the day, yesterday...v common to spike in the evenings.
Also, viral illnesses commonly give you higher temps than a bacterial infection.
I would imagine you're turning the corner, but be prepared for a couple more evening spikes.
It's a horrible time, especially if you witnessed a febrile convulsion, very distressing indeed. But I think this might, just now, be starting to abate. All the very best.

My little boy had roseola, also had a febrile convulsion and fever for eight days though the super high spikes stopped after five. As long as eating and drinking and no other worrying signs it’s just a waiting game. As a PP said evening spikes are normal, hope you see improvement soon

Thanks everyone, I do trust that it’s viral however she was prescribed antibiotics anyway due to a complex history of febrile convulsions (this was her 33rd 😳). She’s 3. Deffo probs something she’s picked up at nursery, was just really hoping it would be gone by now! We will just wait it out!!
