Very heavy periods dd 12

Did started her periods at 9. She has been very regular from day 1 but they are so heavy so is struggling at school and gym etc. she does a sport at competitive level which involves very tight/short outfits. She has asked to get something to make them lighter so she can cope with them better. I am happy for her to do so but wondering if 12 is too young to pump a load of hormones into her body? Thoughts please and any similar age experience?

I would definitely speak to a doctor and see what the options are.

My periods started at 10 and were horrendous. Unfortunately it was never a conversation I could realistically have with my mother (very old school and things like that weren’t spoken about). I suffered immensely until I went to the doctors myself at 16 to ask for the pill.

The psychological effects at your daughters age and into teenage years would be worse than giving her hormones imo.

There's a risk of anaemia if you don't do something. There are consequences to both acting and not acting here. It might be mefenamic acid, it might be iron tablets, it might be hormonal contraception that's the answer. Time for a GP visit.

Tranexamic acid from your GP. My two youngest started at 9 and have extremely heavy periods.
