Flat head 11 week old

Hi all,

Over the last couple of weeks I’ve noticed my 11week has started to develop a flat spot on the back of her head and despite Google telling me this is normal and common I feel horrible.

My older child had a flat spot at this age too and I was told it would round out but it never did. It hasn’t affected him in anyway and is hidden by his hair.

How on earth on you supposed to avoid the flat head happening when you are advised to place them on their backs?!

My baby sleeps well at night in her bedside cot (in her back) but for daytime naps will generally sleep in the carrier or in the car seat or pram if we are out and about. We do tummy time but only manage a total of about 15 mins a day before she starts getting frustrated and upset.

She spends time being held a lot more than she spends lying flat in her back during the day but the flat spot is still there.

I plan to mention it to my health visitor next appointment but has anyone got any advice or suggestions or also had similar?

Is the flat spot on one side? We had this. Torticollis was the culprit so we took baby to the osteopath and did some exercises so there was no head turning preference

Thanks for the reply! The flat spot is at the back on the head but towards one size, it does seem to be where she positions her head when lying down

When she’s asleep, re position her head to the other side and otherwise get her to look at toys etc on that side, change the side you feed her on, lay her down the other way in her cot etc so she’s more likely to look to the centre of the room
