Infant Ultrasound experience

We have to take our 9mo for an ultrasound prior to a paediatric consultation as they have a small lump on their back - gp suspects could be fatty tissue but of course wants to make sure.

Our paeds appt is in a few weeks and got a call to book the ultrasound for next week. Just wondered if anyone had any experience of how they got on taking a baby as the only info I can find it about older children. Thank you.

Hi,
My dd had regular ultrasounds and x-rays from birth to 8mo for hip dysplasia.
The technician will usually ask you to hold the baby still while they do the ultrasound.
It can be a bit tricky to hold them still if they are squirming (which they tend to).
The best thing you can do is to try stay calm and relaxed yourself and have some comfort things to hand, like a soother if they take one or favourite toy.
Other than that, the technician will tell you what to do.
Ime, it is not very nice having to hold the baby in place but they are generally quick and not too much hassle.
Good luck x

Could you try to arrange the appt at a time when your baby would be having a bottle or be asleep?

My Baby had leg ultrasounds around 3.5 months old. She was rolling by this point and had to be held still. This was a little unpleasant to do but it was quick and thankfully everything was ok.

Thank you all so much! It's the squirming I'm worried about! Unfortunately even if they were due a nap or bottle they'd stay awake to be nosy
