my daughter who will be 3 in July has been unwell since Friday started with a bit of an upset stomach and fast breathing Saturday night she was spiking fever woke up this morning (Sunday morning)vomited saying tummy hurts no more temp thought was a bug refused food all day also not weeing much so called 111 who advised it sound like viral she been having some drink around 5pm asked me for a sandwich so made that and some fruit had a bite from sandwich eat the fruit by 8pm she was really lethargic pale temp spiking again so decided to go up to children a&e she vomited on way they directed me to urgent care who said she had white spots on throat and temp was 38.5 come down to 37.9 after they gave her paracetamol sent us home with a prescription for antibiotics to get tomorrow she eat some crisps and stuff on way home seemed fine woke up at 2am she was shivering uncontrollably with blue around lips really lethargic temp 39.2 she then started to vomit tried giving some nurofen was sick again gave some water vomited again called ambulance said heart rate was 180 and needed to be taken back in to a&e a different one to earlier who has now advised that they think it’s viral as only few spots and going to give her some paracetamol and anti sickness if she don’t vomit anymore send us home but issue is she’s fine until the temp spikes and then it’s hard to get the meds into her what do I do I explain I didn’t feel comfortable taking her home with how she’s reacting to the temperature she’s fine when temp goes down every few hours when it wears off she’s going back into same cycle does this sound more serious than a viral. Surely she would benefit from an IV antibiotic at this point?

It may well be viral. Doesn’t mean being sent home is the best thing.

my ds (21) was admitted a few months ago with a viral infection because he collapsed and had an anoxic seizure with it. If if aren’t comfortable with her being discharged then say so and explain it’s because when her temp spikes she needs the care the hospital give to manage it.

ask about IV fluids and pain relief.
