Missed fructure?

We were on holiday the weekend before last, my 10 year old jumped into the pool and landed on her heal.
She was in some pain but after talking to 111 it was decided to see how she went as was probably soft tissue injury.

Anyway came home and 5 days after she still wasn't putting weight through that foot so went to minor injuries.
Had an x ray was told all good and it was soft tissue and to rest it for a couple of days.

Week later (on Wednesday) had phone call from our local hospital to say there might be a break that they had missed and they will phone back within 72 hours to let us know (virtual fructure clinc).

Because its a weekend its most likely going to be Monday now so that's 5 days of not knowing and obviously she is 10 so wouldn't be as careful as an adult and she is back in school so unsure of what I should do.

Has this happend to anyone else?

Sadly yes. Sometimes fractures are not obvious. We have had two callbacks in recent years, one was actually a fracture, one was decided not in the end. The x-rays are usually reviewed by another member of staff and sometimes things can be picked up then. We once had a callback 5 weeks later 😮

Practically, I would let school know that there is a query fracture so not running around at playtime etc would be a sensible measure. Treat as you would a soft tissue injury - rest, ice, elevate where possible.

Aww thank you, from looking up the fracture is one that is easy missed so im not holding no one to blame.

Its more the lack of what I should be doing to make sure that she is not doing more damage to it.
But if there not to concerned about it then maybe its not a fracture to be to concerned about and just to make sure my dd is careful but not running around (which tbh it hurts to much to do that).

My DS was sent home from A&E one weekend with a thigh to ankle bandage and crutches and told he had a bad knee sprain, and given an exercise leaflet.

On the Wednesday the hospital phoned to confirm it was a fracture (mistaken as a growth plate line just below the knee) and to come back in, and absolutely no weight bearing.

It took 9 weeks to heal!

Thats my concern the damage, she has nothing supporting her foot though and just dont know what to do for the best.
But trying to get her to rest as much as I can and just be sensible.
