Hi all,
my daughter has always bruised easily and she’s very active - always climbing / jumping and falling off her scooter etc
do these leg bruises look normal? I took this photo earlier and now feel a bit panicked about the number of bruises.
thanks

They look totally normal to me. My daughter is 9 now and slightly less bruised but her legs have basically always been like this 😅

HooseMidden · 07/04/2026 20:45

Yes, they look normal to me.

HScully · 07/04/2026 20:45

Mine look like that now 😂 I think
Its pretty normal for an active kid. If she seems fit healthy and energetic I wouldn't worry

Besafeeatcake · 07/04/2026 20:46

Yes why would you be panicked?

pastabest · 07/04/2026 20:47

Two girls 7 and 9. Their legs are far worse than your daughter's. It's a sign of a happy active childhood.

SeaToSki · 07/04/2026 20:48

they look like the legs of a child who has fun exploring and playing . Is there any other reason you would be worried about her?

thistimelastweek · 07/04/2026 20:49

Very normal.

Newusername0 · 07/04/2026 20:54

My daughter had similar and was sent for a blood test to rule out anything sinister (had gone in for different reasons and Dr spotted the bruising). She was fine but if you’re not sure it’s worth a visit to the GP.

TheChosenTwo · 07/04/2026 21:05

Ah my dds spent years with legs like this, they were happy running climbing playing etc.

Are you worried about her in any other way?

Lavender14 · 07/04/2026 21:07

There's a good number of them but they're all in and around places you'd expect to see bruising on an active child. Looks to be in different stages of healing as well. So I wouldn't worry unless showing other signs of I'll health.

Thanks everyone for replying!
I do have quite bad health anxiety as she was very poorly as a baby and we then nearly lost her to sepsis (I’m having counselling)
I was worrying about something sinister underlying / bleeding disorder. But she seems well in herself and has lots of energy

Well go easy on yourself about being anxious. Its good to ask for others opinions if you arent sure yourself in those circumstances. Im glad you are getting counseling, it can be very helpful. Have you tried any CBT techniques?

Thank you :) she was playing with 3 other children, all in shorts with no bruises in sight so I think that’s why I noticed it
I tried CBT a few years ago, which was very soon after everything happened and I didn’t like it but I wonder if it was too soon.
I was thinking of trying EMDR though?

Totally normal and my boys both look like this constantly.
They're active and outdoorsy - and also clumsy!
They constantly get injuries despite my best efforts.
Not health anxiety related but I ended up with PTSD following my own boys serious health issues / incident and I had EMDR and found it really helpful - far more than CBT.
Give it a try if you can.

Ks1 TA here - I see a lot of bruised knees and shins. Looks normal to me 😊

parkezvous · 07/04/2026 21:49

Thanks for your message :)
I’ve heard this from a few people!
I think it’s definitely worth a try. Hope your son is doing well!!

In the words of Joey on Friends, I "bruise like a peach". And I was what we used to call a "tom boy", but hopefully isn't an expression that gets used any more.

To me, those bruises seem totally normal for an active little girl.

Llamamaman · 07/04/2026 21:54

I’m 46 and my legs still look like this! Some people bruise easier than others. I know what you’re worried about - and serious illnesses do not show with bruises when there’s no other symptoms

Springiscoming368 · 07/04/2026 21:55

My DD was investigated for bruises as they were in places you wouldn’t expect. If you google safe guarding bruises location and it will give you a good idea of when doctors get worried about location of bruises and types

menopausalmare · 07/04/2026 21:57

There are three bruises in a row or both legs which is slightly odd. Does she have bruises in unusual places, such as backs of legs? Most children bruise the fronts of their legs below the knees when out playing.

No they’re only really on her knees / shins and she’ll maybe get the odd one on her elbow x

Bruises being in a row on both legs is less odd than random bruises! Probably a table, or a chair, or a bench, or a swing, etc.

That is all completely normal. Those are bruises in contact areas.

Forresty · 07/04/2026 22:02

I'm a little girl, and I'm running around, and I trip over? Bruises on both legs.

I fall backwards off something? Bruises on my elbows.
