Toddler leg pain- is this normal?

Ds is 3, he's big for his age, not weight wise - he's sturdy but not overweight, but he's really tall. He's been complaining pretty consistently about pains in his legs for the last while. It seems to come and go in both legs and focused behind the knees. He's very active and we do a lot of walking so I did wonder about growing pains. He doesn't seem otherwise unwell, no limps or other sign of injury but he's just woke up to pee and has told me they're really, really sore again. It's becoming very regular as in every few days he mentions it. He does have a little turn in one foot which he's had since birth and they're waiting to see if it straightens out on its own but its never seemed to bother him.

Does this sound normal?

It's probably growing pains, but it wouldn't hurt to see the GP and check if there's anything to be concerned about.

No it doesn’t sound completely normal and growing pains aren’t really a thing. It may be nothing but would definitely get him checked out. One of my DDs complained about joint pain for quite a while before we finally got it checked and it turned out she had an auto immune condition. By the time it was diagnosed, it was harder to treat. Hence I would always say get it checked. Hopefully it’s nothing to
worry about but better to be safe. Good luck!

I mean going off the NHS website they seem to be acknowledged as being a real thing. We did do a lot of walking today, he's walked for about 3 hrs around a museum without really stopping so it would fit that his legs are tired- mine are as well. I guess I was just worried about missing something because we are so active all the time if that makes sense?

My son is nearly 5 and has woken on off complaining of this pain for years. He did if just last night. Always assumed it was growing pains and perfectly normal. It’s always at night, almost always in his legs and he said it’s behind his knees. Sounds totally the same and I’m sure it’s growing pains. If you hear otherwise it would be great if you could update though? Maybe I should get it checked to be sure …

Worth getting checked but my daughter had regular growing pains as pp has said often behind the knees. Mentioned to several health care providers over the years and she is now 16 and very physically active. She is somewhat hypwrmobile so I do wonder if that might be a component but we have had that checked out too.

I was told by a specialist that growing pains didn’t really exist, hence stating that. I stand corrected but stand by the advice to just get things checked out.
