Stomach pain , worsening on a night, with no obvious cause.

Since Friday, my son has cried out in pain on a night, with what we think it is waves of stomach cramps. He is non verbal and it’s very difficult to judge what’s wrong. There’s no vomiting, no diarrhoea or constipation. He has no fever. There has been something going around at school we believe. He would not allow a doctor to examine him. Ibuprofen doesn’t seem to have an impact and I can’t get him to take any other medication. I’m going to contact the GP in the morning, but due to my sons SEN and behaviour even getting him to the Drs would be difficult. Any thoughts?

Could be gastritis, the worsening at night (really it’s caused by lying down) is a sign.
Definitely stop the ibuprofen, this can be a cause of stomach inflammation. Use paracetamol instead. Hope you’ve get an appointment tomorrow.

@Candleabrathanks. Unfortunately nurofen is the only medication he will take. We’ve pinned him down previously, but I really don’t want to do that. I’m going to try and get paracetamol suppositories, which again I may not be able to give, but have very limited options.

How are you getting on? My daughter is writhing around with stomach pain on and off through the night, hence me being on here at this time. I'm at a loss what to do and might go to a&e.

Hi @KylieKangaroo, we seem to be improving a little bit. Ibuprofen is just about enough over the day, but last night he was screaming in agony at times, mainly with wind. I have a call with the dr today.

Hope he is okay, it's such a worry.

@Yawningalldaylong did you manage to see a doctor?

Thanks all, thankfully we seem to be going in the right direction. The suggestion of viral gastritis was probably correct, although no diarrhoea or vomiting. As we were able to rule out anything acute, especially with a few local friends children and classmates having a similar thing we managed without having him seen, but I was contemplating A&E one morning as he was screaming in pain. I’ve never seen him as bad. I spoke to a GP who agreed to prescribe paracetamol suppositories, (I always see them suggested on here), but nowhere locally has them in stock. Maybe other local mums have had the same thought! We’ve been able to reduce the nurofen now, as I was worried that was counterproductive and he is starting to settle on a night more, with just a few wake ups. It will take a while for the night wakes to reduce as they become a habit. How’s your daughter @KylieKangaroo? Thanks for your care @Candleabra.
