Baby eczema flare up!

JOH28 · 29/03/2026 15:09

Been told this is infant eczema, it keeps flaring up to the point where she scratches and it bleeds. Its clearly irritating her and causing her discomfort, we just keep getting prescribed different creams & ointments, including steroid creams. Nothing seems to be working or soothing the itch. Its been ongoing for around 5 months now, and we don't seem to be getting anywhere... any recommendations?!

I had similar with my son, constant cycle or steroid cream and others.

Finally found special clothing from a company called happy skin, and the creams they recommend. Not cheap but oh my God. So much better now!

ETA - sorry picture hadn’t come through when I posted they do do a head and neck cover which helped my son with his neck especially where it is dribbly. But probably wouldn’t cover it all 😕

Iocanepowder · 29/03/2026 15:41

What steroids and creams have you tried so far?

Yeah that’s one of them but somewhere they also recommend this one:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/AproDerm-401-1771-Colloidal-Oat-Cream/dp/B07QK1K57J/ref=asc_df_B07QK1K57J?mcid=d2d1e63870353b28a587d3b334b65667&hvocijid=4889131896020414131-B07QK1K57J-&hvexpln=74&tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=696285193871&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=4889131896020414131&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9190389&hvtargid=pla-2281435177378&psc=1&gad_source=1

I think they are specifically to be used in conjunction with the clothing. I found the website really interesting explaining about how most of the parafin based creams just treat the symptoms rather than repair the skin. Everyone’s different but it was a godsend for me. Fingers crossed you find something that works, it’s horrible trying to manage it 😕

Check the NICE guidelines for GPs to consider allergies with babies needing treatment for eczema. They should also be referring to dermatology and/or for allergy testing. See attached info from the NICE guidelines.

Or to dermatology (not for allergy testing) for a second opinion as treatment hasn't worked.

Don't use E45 on eczema, it burns!

cocog · 31/03/2026 14:48

Honey eczema is supposed to be good it has great reviews thankfully my sons has cleared for now but will be buying it if it flares up again. it’s trying to find something that works for each child. Good luck.

Iocanepowder · 01/04/2026 10:28

My son tried a bunch of steroids like hyrocortisone that didn’t work. The one that has worked is Mometazone.

I would also echo PP’s suggestion to rule out allergies causing it.

Are they both good? Or did you find one better than the other? Xx

I have been pushing for an allergy test & referral to dermatology and they seem very reluctant to do this...I'm still trying though!

Go to the GP and show them the NICE guidelines. If they refuse a referral then I'd be asking them to record that and the reason in the notes, then see a different GP.

I think the rejuvaskin one is better, though I’d double check it’s okay to use on the face. I used that one when it was really bad, and now the oat one for occasional flair ups - it’s much cheaper!!!

Hey, did you find anything that has worked?
my baby has exactly the same, in the same place and I can’t find anything that helps!

lilylooleelala · 16/06/2026 13:46

My baby is 6 months. He has had it so so so bad on his forehead and side of face. Cutting out foods hasn’t worked. The only thing that has worked apart from steroid cream is organic Shea Butter. It’s really helping to rebuild his skin barrier. I would completely recommend it. It has vitamin A and E in it and it’s a wonderful natural barrier cream.

Thank you! Is there a brand you use?
my LO has allergies, cutting out foods has helped but he’s so red, dry and peeling all the time, everything just seems to soak in and do nothing.

Unfortunately not cream wise! We are still on the look out for that miricle cream!
Sge is on antihistamine medicine 2 x a day.
We stopped using steroid cream as it did more harm than good.
However, we did trial a dairy free diet for 3 weeks which did help clear it up, we have only recently reintroduced dairy, so we ate monitoring how she goes.
I finally managed to get a dermatology appointment for the end of this month too, so hoping they can help! 🤞🏼

I’m using the brand Cattier Paris but I’m living in Germany atm so it might not be in the UK. Just any certified organic, non scented and non-refined Shea butter should be fine. I started to notice a difference in around 1 week. I made sure he did not touch the area at all and I would gently moisten the area once a day with water and then within a couple of minutes I apply the butter generously. And then I reapply it a couple times a day (without washing it). It’s not a miracle cream but I have found that it has given his skin the chance to become stronger and calmer :) I can’t post a photo but in one month it’s unbelievable how much it’s helped. There’s so much information about it online too, in regards to it helping baby eczema that I was a bit sad our paediatrician didn’t mention it!
