24+ hours without wee!

There is more background which I'm not going into (at least not at the outset), as I want a general view.

If your 7yo child had not had a wee in just over 24 hours (and counting), how concerned would you be?

There are issues with retention which are being investigated very slowly, and she's not dry at night, so it's not a case of being dry overnight and then no wee then next day, if that makes sense.

Would this be a A&E job? A contact the GP in the morning job? An observe and try to hydrate job?

Due to 'background' it's easy for me to understand or over react. So I thought I'd ser what regular consensus would be. She's been drinking and seems fine in herself.

Just to clarify OP, is she weeing at night? Or literally NOTHING for 24 hours?

The latter, with a reduced intake or poorly etc would absolutely warrant investigation. But if she's peeing plenty at night and drinking fine then perhaps GP.

Much reduced in the day anyway, but normally goes at night. But the last drop out of her was 6:45 yesterday. Nothing since. 2 small amounts of poo, but no wee (she needs help with toileting so I know).

Absolutely no wee for 24 hours - A&E, now.

somanychristmaslights · 25/03/2026 18:48

I’d at least phone 111 immediately

FFSToEverythingSince2020 · 25/03/2026 18:54

This is definitely a 111 job. If it has truly been 24 hours without a wee, then I imagine they’ll send you to hospital and not discharge until she’s able to wee on her own and a normal amount. I mean, my friend took her dog to the vet after he couldn’t wee for 24 hours, so… I would imagine it’s the same for humans?

GoldMoon · 25/03/2026 19:02

What's her fluid intake ? Do her eyes look sunken ? If I was you I'd be taking advice from 111 but perhaps a visit to a&e is more advisable .

VividDeer · 25/03/2026 19:03

111, they will probably see her.
I've had similar with dd

nocoolnamesleft · 25/03/2026 19:04

Definitely needs seeing tonight.

VividDeer · 25/03/2026 19:04

How much has she drunk in 24 hours?

Kirbert2 · 25/03/2026 19:05

My son has a history of sepsis so I'd be straight to the hospital. Even without his history, I think I'd be straight to A&E or at least calling 111.

Throwawayusernameforme · 25/03/2026 19:11

Thanks.

My plan was to call the hospital (we can phone for stuff rather than going to A&E) if she didn't go before bed. Thankfully she did.

Because of a tricky medical history it's hard to know whether I'm being overly lax or paranoid sometimes. I have phoned before when it's gone over 20 hours (and vomitted) and they were surprisingly chilled about it, hence why I was worried they'd think I was being paranoid if I phoned this time as they were happy to wait until morning (30+ hours). But my gut says that it isn't good, and it's sadly getting worse.

I'll drop an email to one of her consultants and try to get a plan for when they want me to call. Hopefully they'll get to the bottom of it soon.

Thank you for making me realise that I'm not being an ott paranoid parent here. I didn't think I was but it's all easy to doubt yourself sometimes.

My daughter has a long complicated history with her bowel and bladder.

A few times she's gone over 24 without a wee and the paed doctors never seem alarmed/worried. Hopefully this is the case for you.

Thank you. This seemed to be the cases with her and long stretches before, though not over 24 hours. She reached 21 hours again today.
