Cold sore kiss on 9-week-old’s hands: HSV risk and reassurance?

My husbands grandma kissed my 9 week olds hands with an active cold sore. We saw and immediately rubbed antibacterial hand gel and baby wipes into her hands and we don't think she put her hands in her mouth.

I am completely distraught. What are the chances she will contract HSV? Has anyone else had this happen and everything has been Ok?

I know how you feel and your feelings are valid. It’s time now to be calm and logical. Take a deep breath. You have done everything you could in that situation and if I was you I would be comfortable that it was handled with. The official guidance is to wash the hands, and that you did.
Now you just need to stay calm and look out for the symptoms - https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/neonatal-herpes/
It will be ok.
Keep in mind in the future that sometimes soap and water is more effective than antibacterial gel.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. If it's okay to ask how soon after exposure did symptoms show?
