Hi all,

My son is 3 weeks old. Didn't notice any breathing problems in our 3 day stay in hospital and a few days after.

We noticed he was finding it harder to breathe about 2 weeks ago. We took him hospital a week ago (it started happening for hours) pulling slightly under ribs and neck).

We was told he had viral bronchitis and we put two together because my other son has a terrible cold so they said it's from that.

My 3 week old had a chest x ray (showed some mucus), was observed, blood tests and just told to come back if gets worse and should clear in a few weeks. He is feeding ok, wet nappies etc. we stayed for the weekend.

I'm obviously still very anxious because he still does the breathing. Sometimes he doesn't for a while during the day but after feeds it's bad.

Has anyone else experienced this and how long did it take for them to be better? If this isn't clear soon I may take him back up the hospital.

Did they tell you all the red flags like excessive sleepiness, blue lips etc? https://www.alderhey.nhs.uk/conditions/patient-information-leaflets/bronchiolitis/

How even tiny ones do is quite related to what virus it is, eg I went to A&E with my baby for COVID - after a PCR test showed it was only COVID, they sent us home because they were confident my baby would shake it off. We then were sent to A&E two weeks later by GP with the same symptoms and that turned out to RSV and all they admitted my baby for oxygen.

It must be so stressful given how tiny your baby is. I would have quite a low bar for going back to hospital if worried (especially weekendat night), otherwise I would go to the GP if they do urgent appointments - ours would see you within 2h with a baby under 6 months.
