Can anyone see their child's lymph nodes in neck?

I have a DD 5, and when she looks up at the sky I've noticed that the lymph node to the left of her neck is viable. I'd say it seems about the size of a grape. She's had colds throughout winter but nothing too bad.

i suffer with awful health anxiety ever since my DS had meningitis so my mind immediately jumps to the worst case scenario. I'm reading mixed things about how seeing lymph nodes in necks in children can be normal so I wondered if any other parents can see their child's and it's all been fine?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

@Justamuma

I'll be thinking of you both tomorrow 💕

The GP said it's about the size of a pea. She said it feels totally normal. I do wonder if it's because it's on the neck muscle and my son is very thin? Of course, my health anxiety is going bonkers, I'm getting about 2 hours of sleep a night from worrying.

I hope tomorrow gives you answers, I'm sure they are used to seeing this much more than a GP. Will you ask for an ultrasound?

@hellgirlif it makes you feel any better my daughters is definitely a grape size so bigger than a pea. Pea size is under 2cm so I can see why they aren't concerned.

the paediatrician we are seeing specialises in oncology (I googled her) which also really worries me but hopefully they are the experts so I'll be guided by what they say in terms of imaging. I'm trying to pin my thoughts on the fact her blood tests were all normal but it's hard to stay rational.

@Justamuma
I thought all paediatricians had a speciality but they're all general paediatricians?
My son was referred for heart issues but wasn't referred to see the paed who had cardiology as his speciality. I even asked at A and E if he could see the paed who specialised in cardiology and the people behind the desk told me it doesn't work that way!

@hellgirlshe is a general paediatrician- maybe it's just coincidence but she definitely specialises in paeds oncology as I checked the hospital website!

@Justamuma

What time is the appointment today?
I'll be thinking of you both 💕

@hellgirlthanks so much for asking- the appointment was at 12pm. Consultant felt it and all her other lymph node sites and isn't concerned. She said that it's actually 1cm but there's 2 lymph nodes close together which when inflamed can mat together. That's what the GP measured. She is happy that it is just a normal reactive lymph node that possibly hasn't gone quite back down and because it sits right on the neck muscle and is slim it looks more obvious when she looks up etc. no need for scans or any other bloods unless it increases significantly in size. I'm so releaved I could cry! Thanks so much for checking in xx ❤️
