Don't want to worry you but persistent mouth ulcers can be a sign of Crohn's disease. Look up the other symptoms and see if relevant.

Willowkins · 05/03/2026 01:57

My first thought was, is he getting enough vitamin C?

Realisation14 · 05/03/2026 06:48

Persistent mouth ulcers can also be a symptom of coeliacs disease too.

ifonlyitwasreal · 05/03/2026 06:51

Agree that could be a gluten allergy

My daughter kept getting mouth ulcers and the doctor just kept dismissing them. In the end I asked our dentist to look at them and he them referred her t the dental hospital.
Turned out it was Crohn’s disease but it could be that it is just a deficiency in your sons case.
Maybe worth booking him in with your dentist.

He needs testing for Crohn’s/coeliac and vitamin deficiencies. But do be aware as well that this is just normal for some of us, sadly. I’ve got five massive ulcers right now. This has been my life since I was about five. I had all the blood tests done at a dental hospital when I was nine and they showed nothing.

oh, you could look up Behçet’s, as well. No diagnostic test, as such, but more or less likely depending on ethnicity, etc?

Crohns mouth ulcers are quite distinctive but recurrent ulceration is a symptom. They tend to be quite large and round. Ulcers are generally a response to trauma similar to a graze on the skin so can occur after eating food with sharp edges or as a result of eating hot food.

Toothbrushing, if over vigorous will often break the skin and allergic reactions to some ingredients in toothpaste is a common cause. Look for toothpastes that don’t contain SLS and don’t use Total toothpastes which contain a component that sticks the toothpaste to the surface of the mouth prolonging contact exposure of any allergen.

Firstly a visit to the dentist is a good idea. Doctors don’t really do mouths or teeth. It’s a specialist area.

Looking at the photo you’ve posted I’m struggling to see what you are concerned about. Could you point out the problem. How old is? Does he have a healthy diet?
A wobbly tooth may well be bleeding after eating since it’s being moved around and gradually tearing the gum as it is working its way out.
Tasting blood could also be a symptom of anaemia a cause of ulcers in some individuals. Anaemia can cause a metallic taste and often makes the mouth sore.

To be honest his mouth looks pretty normal. There is a little inflammation around his upper right central incisor which I presume is the loose tooth.

Ok I looked at crohn symptoms
he is not losing weight anymore and he is acc gaining weight. Also he has only chronic constipation issues all his toddler age which is improving this year !
