Hypermobility and puberty

Hi,
DD12 was diagnosed with Ehler Danlos Hypermobility aged 4 and after being fitted for orthotic insoles and some guidance on pacing herself eventually became a strong and confident girl.

Now puberty has hit her like a sledge hammer in the last couple of months. She feels constantly exhausted. Has painful knees and hips and finds PE excruciating. She says she can feel her hips sliding in and out of position.

My question is should I start by taking her to the GP, or is that a waste of time? We were frequently fobbed off before her eventual diagnosis and then pretty much the support dropped off not long after it.

Would it be better to access a physio specialising in hypermobility to assess her joints and to perhaps suggest strengthening exercises to support the joints.

I am not really sure where to start. She was finally becoming a confident young person after so many years of being quiet and shy and physically behind her peers.

To be honest I'd do both. The GP route will be long and slow but might yield something eventually. But if you can go private for physio I would.

I would recommend a person online called Jeanie Di Bon. She’s on you tube look her up. She has a form of hypermobility herself and she teaches health care professionals how best to help patients with the condition.

Her videos and advice are excellent. She has a paid part too called the zebra club-don’t worry about that, it’s not needed. Her free resources can teach you both the movement principles that really make a difference for hypermobility.
