Kids at the dentist

I have a four year old daughter and a 6 year old autistic son he is on the higher end. Everytime I take my children to the dentist I get told off by the dentist makes me not want to go. I'm doing my best its not good enough I try to get my children to drink water but they just refuse or spit it out! Plus all the meltdowns 3 days straight I give away all the squash and juice I had and they still wouldn't drink it I tried different cups they picked out no luck I gave in as I felt bad they hadn't drunk anything and couldn't cope with all the meltdowns and the sleepless nights. My children don't eat badly I don't give them sweets chocolate etc. They always have fruit and vegetables everyday but the drink I can't seem to get right even the sugar free squash the dentist said is bad I just don't know what else to do.

Our dentist is very realistic that children like sweet things, so focuses on the message that it needs to be in moderation. But when it comes to juice, we do avoid it but when they have had it, I have always given just a small slither of Robinsons, etc diluted with water, where the colour of the water has only changed slightly. Is that an option? That way they still get some of the taste but it’s heavily watered down?

the kids have learned you give in. eventually

they will always push you now because they know your weakness.

you need to overcome this.

presumably they are getting coke etc to drink and it’s rotting their teeth? robinsons, even if you need to make it into a slushie or something would be better for their teeth.

Could you use the cup they picked and let them chop some fruits they like, ice cubes and drop them in water with a curly straw? Sounds random but it worked for my DS when he was younger and soon after he drank plain water fine. Think it just made it a bit fun, something he had made himself and he got used to the taste of water

Ive never ever given them coke or any fizzy drink sorry if that wasn't clear its normally sugar free squash or watered down juice that's it and when you have a SEN child where there meltdowns last hours to days its impossible as they just don't understand.

Sugar free squash & always drunk from a re-useable metal straw will be much better for their teeth - can you try that?

Yeah that's what we have already been doing but the dentist wasn't impressed 😐 just can't win literally since they where old enough to drink I'd always offer water and they always spit it out ever with putting chopped up fruit in it they'd spit it out
