Sickness bug 🤢

On Monday early hours my dd (1) was sick in my bed 3 times. Fast forward to Wednesday early hours, I start having horrendous d&v for 5 hours straight. 2 hours after I started, ds (3) starts being sick too.

Dd was very resilient and was fine after a sleep, ds was vomiting for about 12 hours, until Wednesday afternoon. Fast forward to this afternoon (Friday) and we hit 48 hours without ds vomiting. However we have just put him to bed, and he’s just done a huge vomit all over his bed - I’m talking duvet, sheet, covers in the bin.

Why is he being sick again, is he still contagious? My finance has so far managed to avoid it and after 48 hours I thought he was in the clear now and had started to relax. I’m asking as I’m hugely emetephobic so this week has had a huge mental toll on me. We have also booked to view our dream wedding venue tomorrow!!

Yes, he's still contagious. This is pretty common with vomiting bugs - mine always seem to get to about 35-50 hours and then vomit again 🤦 and then go back to fine. Sometimes they stay that way, sometimes they are sick again a day later.

Do you think having a yogurt at lunch time today had anything to do with the second bout of vomiting? Perhaps the diary unsettling his little tummy? Or do you think it’s just one of those things…

Dairy definitely to be avoided for a few days after a bug it is a known irritant .

Realisation14 · 13/02/2026 21:50

Yes it's common for children to vomit again a few days after a stomach bug because their stomach is still very sensitive and you have to feed them only plain foods, dairy definitely should be avoided for about 5-7 days. He is still contagious yes.

One of mine did this. 48 hours clear, went back to school all fine. Vomited the next day at school. Couldn’t believe it.

The got an attendance letter from school. I did point out he’d caught the fucking bug from school and would they like to keep him. But that’s another story… 🙄

Another 48 hours exactly have passed and he’s just projectile vomited AGAIN all over his bed. I’ve run out of bedding, towels, everything!! What is this????

What's he eating and drinking?

gmh27 · 16/02/2026 06:55

He’s drinking only water and to be honest he’s not been eating much he’s not had much of an appetite. A bit of plain chicken and some toast

So he was sick Wednesday, Friday evening, Sunday evening? I don’t think that that sounds massively unusual, especially since you can be pretty certain he has the bug you and your DD had, so it’s unlikely there’s a more dangerous cause.
DD1 had a bug when she was three and she was sick Wednesday morning, Thursday afternoon, Monday evening. She was fine after that. I remember because I also have emetophobia so it’s all burnt into my brain.

If he’s keeping food and water down generally, I’d give him a couple more days, and then I’d maybe check with a GP if it happened again, but even then I think they’d just say that viruses can linger and to wait a bit longer before worrying.

OtterMummy2024 · 16/02/2026 08:22

Can you get some apple juice in him? Low blood sugar can cause nausea and vomiting, particularly if his stomach is still sensitive from the bug.

One of mine vomited for an entire week before it stopped. Make sure he’s drinking and weeing. In a&e they would make you syringe 5mls every ten minutes or so before they do anything else. It just sounds like a normal bug that needs to run its course.
