Hi, I took my 6 year old dd to the doctors last week as she had a temperature of 39.9, turns out it’s scarlet fever and got given a 10 day course of antibiotics, she is now going onto day 5 of them and there’s still no improvement! Her temperature is still up and she still hasn’t got her appetite back and she hasn’t had much at all for the past few days, Doctors said that doesn’t really matter as long as she’s drinking which she is but I’m just abit concerned about the temperature ? Has anyone else experienced this ? I’ve been told to let the antibiotics kick in but usually they do within the first 24 - 48 hours ? I’m going to ring doctors again in the morning but was just wondering if anyone else little one had this ? Thanks

This is a guide for (US) doctors. It says most patients are better after 3-6 days of starting antibiotics but the rash may last 2 weeks

So I think if your daughter is still feverish tomorrow, I would go back to the GP too.

My DS was poorly for a good 10 days after starting antibiotics - he seemed to improve after a few days but then another wave hit.

it’s also worth mentioning that it then took several more weeks for him to get his full strength back he was shattered for ages! It’s a really nasty illness, hope your little one perks up soon

I'm sure you are doing the right thing in going back to the doctor. I also want to point out that SF is contagious and adults can catch it so please keep an eye on your health.

My experience was that I was so busy worrying about my two sick children that I didn't notice I was ill until they started recovering. By then I had pneumonia and pleurisy and it took 4 weeks of antibiotics to get me back to health. So take care of yourself as well as you look after your DD.
