Echo Cardiogram for DD13

Notmytelescope · 29/01/2026 12:56

DD is due a cardiac review for a mild congenital heart issue. It is several years since the last one and I have a few concerns about how she will find it now she is 13.

Since the last one DD has become much more private about her body (perfectly normal!) and is quite shy. Does anyone know if she will be able to keep her bra on? Or will she need to be stripped to the waist?

If so, does anyone have any ways they have made this easier for a teen DD?

She will be able to keep her bra on as long as it's not wired. Has she got a sports bra she can use ? My daughter wore one of those when she had her ECG.

An ECG is an electrocardiogram, not an echo. I have echoes regularly and I honestly can't see how it can be done without taking one's bra off. They will provide a hospital gown. It's also worth bearing in mind that it could be a male radiographer. Is it worth phoning the department and asking what is or isn't possible with regard to covering up?

You can also sometimes wear a second gown (one front one back) and or a dressing gown. As @Bsmirched says, phone and ask.

My daughter wears a crop top/bralette when she has hers.

I had to take my bra off and wear a gown when I had mine.

My mistake. My tired eyes read "electro" instead of "echo".

The person doing the ECHO should be used to this situation. Just let them know it’s been a while since her last one and she’s a bit apprehensive / embarrassed.
