Eczema advice

My 4 year old developed a patch of sore skin on his inner thigh about a year ago. The dr believes it is eczema and has been treating it as such - daily emollient (cetraben), only emollient used as a body wash, hydrocortisone for flare ups. The hydrocortisone reduces the inflammation but we seem to be stuck in a constant cycle as when I stop using it, within days it’s flared up again. I have stopped applying it for 3 days and it’s back to looking like this (pic attached) the area is increasing little by little too. Just to add he now also gets this on his genitals too, nowhere else on his body. I’m just looking for any advice really, or if anyone has found a ‘wonder cream’ that works!

My DP has a patch like this and I also recently got eczema. Boots do a good cream in their Derma Care range for eczema. My DP gets his under control with steroid cream and then uses derma cream daily to keep it at bay

As an aside my eldest has the worst eczema as a child. He was covered from head to toe and was wet wrapped ( don't think they do that now?). In the end we discovered he has multiple food allergies. Could there be something triggering the eczema?

It is very well demarcated for eczema and has a slightly raised edge. Could it be a fungal infection that has been modified in appearance by mild topical steroids?

steroid creams can temporarily improve fungal infections but they gradually become larger.

I did ask the dr on a recent visit if it could be something triggering it, but he was of the opinion that since its only fairly recently developed its highly unlikely.

It did cross my mind whether it has been misdiagnosed. It starts off looking like little spots which the dr said looked atopic, and then after a few days ends up like this.

This is what it has looked like in various stages across the year he has had it

Dermasence Adtop
and
Eucerin Atopi.

Used both. I was desperate after one year of constant flare ups. One in the morning, one in the evening. Worked. No more flare-ups. But I used them daily after a round of steroid cream that calmed down the flare up first.

Short showers instead of long baths ... you know the drill.

(our doctor also gave her one week of antibiotic / antifugal cream)
