Toddler limping after leg/ ankle injury - A&E?

My 2 year old fell awkwardly yesterday evening and twisted his angle / foot. He couldn’t weight bear at all but was off to bed and wasn’t in pain when not weight bearing so put him to bed and thought I’d see how he was the next day. Today he can weight bearing but is limping quite a lot and not always bending his knee when walking. Would you take to A&E or see how he is in a day or so? I’m tempted to give him 24 hours and see if he improves but not sure if that is right.

I wouldn't take him to A and E, but if he's still limping in a day I'd take him to minor injuries

Do you have a minor injuries near you? Our local A&E is a hellish mess of too many patients, but there are a couple of minor injuries units around that seem to be more pleasant.

I think its always best to get it checked - it once took me 3 days to get ds checked over when he was limping slightly (i thought it was just a sprain, didn't want to cause a fuss, local papers were full of stories of A&E being swamped, etc) and it turned out he'd actually broken his ankle.

Take him to minor injuries if he is still limping.

I'd take him to a walk in centre or minor injuries clinic - depending on what you have available in your area. 111 might be able to assist with the best place for you to go.

I would get it looked at though.

DS had a toddler fracture when he was 2, after a fall. No obvious injury or bruise, and he could move it no bother, but he couldn’t really put any weight on it.

I assumed it was just sore and bruised until I posted here for advice and a poster warned me about a toddler fracture so we went to an urgent treatment centre where he had an xray and he ended up needing a cast for four weeks. Would say it’s worth getting him checked out at minor injuries / urgent treatment rather than A&E.

Minor injuries or same-day GP appt as they might be able to refer you straight into paediatics (they can in our area), which is a lot more pleasant than being stuck in A&E.

Annoyingly we don’t have a minor injuries unit and GP won’t see him, I will call 111 later and see what they advise and if they can sort any short cut somehow.

It happened yesterday evening so it would be sensible to sort something out sooner rather than later if he is still limping.

If you do end up having to go to A&E you really don't want to go late in the day. If there's a long wait it's going to be a lot harder to do that in the evening.

Currently waiting at A&E although typically now it seems better than this morning so not sure they’ll actually bother doing an x ray or anything.
