Cerebral palsy - very mild - should I claim DSA?

Hi there
my DD has been diagnosed age 4 with mild spastic diplegia.

She has high muscle tone in her right leg and ankle. Falls a lot. Gets tired easily but is very bright. Hasn’t impaired her cognitively as we can see.

My health visitor mentioned disability allowance being something we could apply for.

How likely from experience is this to accepted and is it worth the form filling?

Many thanks

You apply, it will be somebody else deciding if there is eligibility or not, so let them make the decision. Will this cost you extra money in any way? Additional care needs? Having to use car/cab rather than public transport? If so, then you should apply.

There may be a parent group or SEN support service who could help you to fill in the form. You may as well apply.
You can send any reports or evidence and need a statement from someone who knows your child and her needs well. Ideally a professional, school or Nursery SENCO for e.g.
It helps to include some actual examples around tiredness physical differences etc.

DLA is awarded on care needs that are above those of other children of the same age. Cerebra have an excellent guide that can help you navigate the paperwork involved and also have lots of useful information on their website
