Undescended testes age 7

I was looking for advice.
for years now I have been concerned for my sons testes, he is now 7.
historically as a baby and when potty training we noticed his penis would balloon when he was urinating and had this checked by multiple doctors and no one ever mentioned an undescended teste. I always thought the sack looked empty but when speaking to my husband he would always brush this off saying it was normal and the balls go up and down.
I understand that babies should have this surgery around the age of 1.
and this evening I raised this again with my husband and I said I’m sure one is never down , this can’t be normal. My husband asked my son to look and feel and finally acknowledged that possibly this isn’t normal as could only feel one.

I also remember almost 2 years ago (5yrs old) a hospital visit for my son for abdo pain, that on his notes it mentioned only one teste found , but nothing was done

im going to take him to the doctors tomorrow., but I am so worried ive delayed this , im worried what damage I could have caused not trusting my gut, and im worried hes now too old.
my worries are spiralling
any advice or comments would be useful

Our son had surgery to bring the undescended testicle down at 3 and I think that was fairly late.

Push for examination and, if necessary, action as a matter of urgency.

I can’t help for feeling really cross at my husband for brushing this off as normal for so long , I don’t have testicles so I was accepting that he knew more than I did. But I’m also angry with myself for not just ignoring it , acting on my concern and getting him checked anyway.
im concerned I’ve caused my son health concerns or infertility and cancer risk by leaving this so long.

Hi, I have a friend who has a son who also had this, he didnt have his op until late primary school (I cant remember exactly what year but it was definitely KS2) he has been absolutely fine (19 now). They just sewed it to the inside of the sack to prevent it from going back up, and although it was only the 1 they did the other one just to make sure.

He doesnt have any children yet but they didn't seem too worried at the time of doing the op. Hope this might give you some peace of mind. Hope all goes well at the doctors but I've heard its not that uncommon.

Hi, please don't worry. My son had a retracted testicle (it originally was descended but moved back up as he grew) He had a very straightforward surgery aged 13.

My relative had surgery age 12. He is fine health wise.

I am sorry for worrying you: I see others have had successful outcomes when surgery was undertaken later. My husband was the opposite of yours: he was very conscientious about checking whether the testicle was there or not and pushed for us to sort it out! I hope you get it sorted soon.
