Looking for some advice my 20 month old fell over Christmas day and was screaming in pain and wouldn't put her foot down, took her the hospital, they did an x-ray and said might be possible toddler fracture just keep her topped up on painkillers. Came back to the hospital 10 days later as she's walking with a limp and every time she knocks her leg she's screaming in pain for a good 10+ minutes. Hospital re x-rayed whole leg this time and hip, found a toddler fracture in lower leg said the same thing just keep her topped with painkillers, I asked about a cast and they said they don't do them for toddler fractures. So just wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation as I feel so sorry for her cause she's in too everything so she's constantly banging her leg and then screaming in absolute agony and she's normally the kid too bang her self bad and just get up and not cry so she's definitely in pain. Not sure what I can do now?

Wow my son definitely had a cast for his fracture but that was 10 years ago now

Crazy. My 2 year old had a fibula fracture and was put in a cast as it was hurting too much to walk and wouldn’t let anyone touch the leg etc would scream. It’s impossible to not let a toddler weight bare on their legs!! I would consider getting a second opinion.

Mine had a toddler fracture and was in a cast for 6 weeks. 13 years ago but I’m not sure if broken legs have changed how they heal.

I’d go back and insist.

Worth noting for commenters: "toddler fracture" is a specific type of tibia fracture, not any fracture happening in a toddler! Avoiding casting (which has practical downsides) is often the first choice but if it's not working out for your child then get booked back into fracture clinic. Fracture clinic can be a bit of a production line, fine a lot of typical cases but not everyone, so make sure your reason for booking back is clear and you're happy you have been seen by an appropriately senior person (sometimes this can mean a longer wait).

My toddler had a toddler fracture last year and was in a cast for 4 weeks. He couldn't weight bear at all though and wouldn't even put his foot down.

Why do you think those of us using the term toddler fracture aren’t aware of that?

Eg 2nd reply mentions a fibula fracture.

We had a boot for a foot fracture and a wrist thing for a buckle fracture. They were going to put the foot in plaster but managed to find a small enough boot.
