Nosebleeds

My 11 year old has suffered with them for a long time. Had cauterisation done approx 6 months ago but it hasn’t really helped. The past couple of weeks they’ve become more frequent. Today alone, he’s had 2 pretty big ones. Now he’s in bed, feeling sick. Doesn’t want to eat or drink. He’s actually been to football training this morning(which I advised against). What can I do?

Possibly not much. DS9 has them frequently too and always has done. The heating on in the house really dries his nose out which increases them and we find once he has one, he'll have a few days of them before they ease off.

Keep him hydrated as it does help prevent his nose drying out. There are some antibiotic creams you can try in case it's bacterial (watch out if he's allergic to peanuts as one of the main ones isn't suitable for peanut allergy sufferers).

We've been advised to use antihistamines when they flare up. Not sure if it makes a difference though. Also we had a steroid nasal spray for a while but again, not convinced it helped.

So annoying though. The ENT was saw wouldn't cauterize it as she said it rarely works and just builds up scar tissue.

Thanks for your reply. Feel so sorry for him. It’s really affecting his quality of life now. Going to contact the ENT ‘specialist’ on Monday and get him seen again. They discharged him after the procedure!
did your DC feel sick after nosebleeds?

Sorry for delayed response.

DS doesn't usually feel sick unless it's very heavy or he swallows some blood. But normally he just gets on with it and doesn't let them bother him too much. Sounds like yours might be more severe. Definitely try and keep him hydrated and I hope the ENT can help.
