Obstructive sleep apnea

My son is almost 6. We've seen an ENT Dr about possible enlarged adenoids causing issues. If you've had experience with this , what were the symptoms in your child?

My son's tonsils aren't enlarged but he's always getting sore throats and severe illnesses. He dribbles a lot, struggles with some sounds in speech, wakes alot at night, has night terrors alot, mouth breathes, always has a blocked nose and is flat out exhausted all the time. This in turn makes him irritable and wired. He has constant enlarged lymph nodes in the neck and tummy pains.

My DC had their tonsils out aged 2 due to OSA, it’s made a huge difference.

Yep same issues here with both dc, sleep issues in one were bad due to apnea. Both dc had adenoids and tonsils out by age 4. Made a huge difference to both, better sleep, no more infections, could hear better as one had grommets as well. Looked less ill all the time and became much healthier. I would push to have it done.

DD had her enlarged adenoids out first and the difference in her looks AND her behaviour was like light and day.

Sleeps better, eats better, has colour instead of pallor, has energy instead of being listless. Once her enlarged tonsils were removed (a year later) she can now breathe, eat, run, sleep and actually have a life instead of existing. If you get offered the opportunity to have them removed then grab it with both hands.

Thanks for your experiences. Definitely sounds like it will be worth getting them out! Trying to see if he'll be able to get it done on my husband's work health insurance as currently the NHS will be a fair wait. I'm taking nite of all the issues though to see if we can get seen sooner.
