Need a hand hold re suspected early puberty in 6 year old

Daughter is tall for her age & a little chunky. She’s had body odour for a year which we use deodorant for. I noticed some pubic hairs a few weeks ago. We have seen a doctor who thinks she has breast buds too. She is going to refer us as she thinks this is likely early puberty.

she mentioned that brain tumours can cause this which terrified me, obviously. She did do basic neuro tests with DD whilst we were there & they were all fine so she said she wasn’t concerned it was that.

i just feel sick, we live rurally and the nearest private Endocronologist is a 6 hour round drive & no availability until March. Both my kids were critically ill when they were born & both under the care of Paeds for a few years each. Anything like this just throws me back there. Also the fact that she’s only 6 & although very mature for her age, 6 is just so young to be going through this.

Anyone that has been here before, any advice appreciated. Did your DC have treatment? Or just leave nature to it? What tests did they have?

TIA x

@IncessantNameChanger. Go back to the GP and push for a referral. Delaying is not a good idea as if a child can benefit from treatment, the earlier the better.

Thanks. My gp totally brushed off like I was insane the last time I saw them. I think the private option might be worth it. Dh family are so short on both sides. Then they marry short people. Honestly they are so short it's very noticableds was 7 when he was taller than mil. Dh cousin was shorter than that. My boys have got to reasonable heights ( 5,8 and over) but dd I fear won't if she has started puberty over a year ago.

I think it's fine to want to check short stature in a particular child isn't due to a specific underlying medical cause but I'm a bit concerned you're talking as if being short is abnormal or bad in itself. If your family is full of short people marrying short people, it is fine and natural that they have children who are also short, just like ginger people and their ginger offspring! 10th centile for adult men is 5'3 / 160cm, for women 4'11 / 150cm. If you go back a few generations most children were taller than their same-sex parent due to improving nutrition but this is no longer the case in developed countries.

Some women in my dh family are extremely short. I'm talking 4,2 4,3 which my dd is looking max out around about that. But my sons are 5.8, 5,10, 5,9 and still growing at 13. I'm worried there's more than just short genes. My family are very tall. Dd expected adult height is 5 foot exactly and I can not see her reaching anywhere near that. My mil is exceptionally short. But none of her 6 grandkids are. Every single one is at least 5,4. Dd could be a genetic link but I'm worried it's more. She didn't grow 1cm in three years. She was the same shoe size in all that time two which was worring. Short genes and early puberty is a real worry for me.

Just an update for anyone interested…

she’s had bloods to check hormone levels, all came back fine, so not early puberty. However, her X-ray to check bone density put her at 2 years older than she is. Not sure what that means alongside everything else, have a follow up appointment on Monday.

Following as my dd is 11 but extremely short for her age. I do worry as she has some signs of puberty. But the only growing a few inches after your first period is a real worry. She is the height of a 9 year old and has some extremely short people on her dad's side. Adult women being 4 foot 2 - 3. 9

How tall is your daughter? Adult women being 4 foot 2 is very very small and would surely be classified as having dwarfism? Do they have dwarfism in the family?

Is she on cows milk or other milk. Sometimes the other milk spurts on puberty.

No they are just extremely short on mil side. Then fil is short for a man. No one has ever mentioned dwarfism. It's just short people marrying short people from what I can see so there is the short dna profile
