38.5 temp after ibuprofen

My DS is just 12 months, he was a bit quiet on Christmas day and woke up about 1am with a temp. He's had a temp since then , he's not himself crying, unhappy etc. But is eating and drinking.

He was checked by out of hours boxing day who said it was viral. He had two vomiting episodes boxing day night but none (touch wood ) since.

Hes been having regular ibuprofen and calpol. He's asleep now and had his last dose of ibuprofen over an hour ago and it doesn't seem to have lowered his temp it's 38.5 currently, was 38.8

Should I be concerned or give it another few days ?

We all had what I think was that awful flu about 4 weeks .

Well ,it is lower.

Ring 111 for advice, not random internet strangers.

That's he's eating and drinking is a good sign.

I'd get hin checked out, probably 111 for this evening and see what they say and GP in the morning if no change or you don't see anyone tonight.

Thank you , yes I think that's what I'm thinking GP first thing (ours are good and normally give an early f2f appt for kids). But I might try 111 shortly as well, thank you.

The pediatric Dr Friday said ears and throat were slightly red so point to viral. Urine was clear.

My just 12 month old has just had a really nasty virus. We had to do 4 hourly calpol/ibuprofen and often his temperature didn’t go below 38. I’d call 111 for advice but dress him slightly lighter for bed, check him regularly and give the next dose when it’s due, regardless of sleep. We ended up in an ambulance as DS had a very horrible unresponsive episode that they put down to his temperature being so high that his body didn’t know what to do! Obviously that’s not common, but definitely makes me much more wary of fevers for the future.
Has he been swabbed for RSV and flu?

I would probably watch and wait here but I’m not advising you to do so, given I’m not a medic. For me I would think it normal to have a bit of a raised temperature while a child fights off a virus. 38.5 isn’t dangerously high and I would just push fluids for a bit.

Again though, I’m not a medic, just saying how i would approach things.
