What is this white bit in my 4YO cheek?

hello group. I noticed this when brushing my 4.5yo teeth tonight. She says it doesn’t hurt and it’s not sore. I’m worried it’s something sinister… any ideas?

What is this white bit in my 4YO cheek?

Does she bite the inside of her cheek?

HushTheNoise · 26/12/2025 21:00

It could just be an ulcer. Once you've bitten your cheek once, you often catch it again more frequently. If you are worried, go to a pharmacist as you will get seen there and then. They will advise if you need to make a dentist appointment.

she said she hasn’t, and she wasn’t aware of anything there until I noticed it. Google tells me cancer (and I really should stop googling!)

Maybe but ulcers are usually red around the edges and also sore but she says it isn’t. Thanks I didn’t think about heading to a pharmacy being in her mouth, I’ll go tomorrow!

my daughter has the same - for years. had all kind of allergy tests. turns out most likely caused by biting cheeks due to overbite

maras2 · 26/12/2025 21:05

Rather large, but could be Koplik Spots heralding a bout of Measles.

BatshitAlso · 26/12/2025 21:06

Please do not worry much, I get this. It’s biting the inside cheek whilst chewing- she may not even realise she’s done it. But for sure- get a Sara opinion to put your mind at rest!

I had a white mark just like that from uneven bite/ tooth which was damaging my gum. Had to have a tooth removed and it disappeared. I also thought it was cancer.

Seawolves · 26/12/2025 21:07

Dr Google is very fond of diagnosing cancer for every health question, my bet is still on some kind of trauma, either biting or caught it with the toothbrush. I would check again in two weeks then if it was still there I would go to see the pharmacist in the first instance.

Thanks. My daughter doesn’t have a tooth out of place I don’t think, never noticed this mark before and I’m sure it wasn’t there a few days ago

I’ve had these on and off all my life, due to my cheek biting stim.
Obviously take her to have it checked out, but try not to worry in the meantime.

Thank you, are they usually as large as that?

I’d also have thought damage from nipping with back teeth. Is it sore? Would bonjela help (assuming you can still buy that…it’s been a while for me). Could it be a patch of thrush? If it was thrush it would come away gently with a cotton bud.

Hello, no not sore and she didn’t even realise it was there until I notified it. Might be thrush I will try and wipe it in the morning but it does look like more of a “growth” than something that could wipe off

I’m sure if it doesn’t come off easily it’ll just be damaged skin and nothing to worry about x

Yes, mine can be, they don’t ever feel sore, just rough when I run my tongue over them. I also grind my teeth in my sleep and I do think I get them through that as well.

Cautiouswalrus · 26/12/2025 21:26

I get this often from biting my cheek. Particularly bad if I’m seething but can’t express it !
Sometimes it eventually rubs off and bleeds.
Also sometimes from eating vinegar type foods, salt and vinegar crisps or pickles .
With little ones though prudent to get it checked but try not to worry too much.

Thank you, I do have quite bad health anxiety (only since having children!) and my mind automatically goes to the worse! Google doesn’t help! X

My DF has this and it occasionally gets sore, he’s had biopsies done over the years and in his case it definitely isn’t cancer but the consultants don’t know what it is.

don’t panic but keep an eye on it.
