Anxious over lump in scrotum

My DS (11) was seen by our paediatric last Thursday due to him having a noticeable lump on his testicle. He told me about it the Monday before and said whilst there was no major pain it was definitely noticeable. No pain when he does a wee. I had read about testicular torsion and was terrified but luckily that’s not what it is. He’s got a scan that’s scheduled late Jan, but currently there is no answer yet. Can anyone calm my nerves and offer any advice/suggestions on what it could be? I’m so worried that he could become infertile or that it’s something sinister. I lost my husband a few years ago and since then my health anxiety is not great. I’m fully aware to keep my worries in check around him though, as I don’t want him feeling worried. We get bereavement counselling.

Hi OP, no real advice but just a handhold. My husband had something called a varicocele (if I remember correctly!) as he also had a lump in his testicle when he was younger and it was a build up of fluid (i think) and it did go. A friend’s brother had the same recently. Hoping all is ok and scan comes back reassuring 💐

My husband has something like this in his younger years-it turned out to be a scrotal hydrocele. He had it removed under GA and it’s never reoccurred. Handhold from me too OP. Flowers X

My teenager had this recently. Was a harmless cyst. Not causing any pain, his dad suffers from the same so looks like it’s hereditary. Just to keep checking his bits and go back if it gets bigger or has any pain.

Hi, OP, my son had this aged 16 and it turned out to be a blocked sperm duct.
I hope you both get a reassuring result from the scan x

My 15 Yr old had a cyst recently. The GP prescribed antibiotics but also sent us immediately to A&E in case of torsion. He was scanned, diagnosed with the cyst and sent home, with instructions to return immediately to A&E if any problems. Told to take the antibiotics just in case, which I do think helped as the pain went and it reduced.

Follow up at paeds a couple of months later and he was discharged. Again, immediately to A&E if pain returns.

Good luck, hope it is something simple.

DH had one, it was just a cyst which was removed in a short operation. The good thing was that the radiographer told him there and then that it was a harmless cyst, so he wasn't worrying.

Hope you're feeling OK, health anxiety is awful x
