Hi took dd15 to doctors and mentioned I as her mother had ulcerative colitis - I was diagnosed around 18 years of age. She sent in a sample and it came back showing inflammation in the poo and GP has referred her to gastroenterologist. I’m surprised they’ve got her an appointment within 1 week of getting letter from GP. Is it normally this quick to be referred for gastro issues? It’s got me a bit anxious! I thought it’d be weeks before she got an appointment. My colitis has been well maintained except from a few bad bouts while at university. I know it could be something else but wondering if anyone else’s child was referred that quick!

Hello - yes my son (with UC) got referred v quickly after his stool sample came back.

im pleased to hear your UC has been manageable, my son Has had it for around 5 years and is on daily Pentasa which seems to control it v well.

Been to hospital today. Her calciproteinnis at 1500! Normal is less than 250! A few more tests before we get a firm diagnosis!

Yes I would expect an IBD diognosis with that and family history - my son's calprotectun was 2,500 - it's now under 50 😊

they will probably get her to have a colonoscopy as the next step

Aw, bless her. That’s tough. It’s good that things are moving along quickly. My 13yo was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease when he was 10, but we waited a long time for his colonoscopy after the initial consultation. I ended up having to get a bit pushy about it, which is well out of my comfort zone. He has been on biologics ever since and, like yourself, everything is well managed and he hasn’t had any flare ups.
