My DS (21months) managed to fall flat on his face earlier this evening and has knocked his tooth out of place 😢
i called 111 for advice and was advised to take him to minor injury first to get him looked over for head injury.
At Minor injury there was no concerns of a head injury and they have just advised to get him an emergency dental appointment over the weekend.
Any advice on what the dentist will or can actually do? Will he just lose the tooth? 😔 it’s not actually loose at all but was told to keep an eye on it as it may become loose.
It looks so painful and uncomfortable 😢

My baby the same age chipped a front tooth earlier this summer - has lost about a third of it. Dentist essentially said nothing to be done with baby teeth but in my case to keep an eye on any discolouration to show that the tooth was dying or infected because then it would have to be taken out. I imagine in your case it might need to come out in case it loosens as it’s a potential choking hazard? The only options it seems to me with baby teeth is leave them or take them out. I have no idea how they do that with a toddler!

I really hope it’s not too bad. And hope you manage to get the emergency appointment. Let us know what happens x

I hope your DS is feeling ok now!

My DS knocked his tooth when he was 3. It moved forward a bit and eventually turned grey. Dentist said it could fall out or get infected so to watch out for for those things. In our case, the tooth moved back to a normal position on its own over a few months and then eventually turned back to white. It lasted till he was 6 before falling out. Luckily it hadn’t damaged the developing adult tooth underneath (which we were told was another risk).

(same DS also managed to knock his other front tooth and chipped off the entire back of it! Again, it was watch, wait, look for infection and wait to see if it falls out on its own. Luckily, his adult ones are in now and he’s a lot more careful!).

Hope you get a dentist appointment soon!

Thanks for the replies both @roshi42@pear6782
We managed to get him in with the emergency dentist today, she basically said as it’s not loose atall to just leave it, follow up with our usual dentist and watch out for infection etc, she said we won’t know if it has damaged his adult tooth until he’s older, fingers crossed it hasn’t 🤞🏻
she said if it became infected then it would need removing but that children adjust quickly to a new bite etc just to keep him on soft foods for a few days along with pain relief as still very sore/swollen.
I feel awful for him, his bed sheet was full of blood this morning where he must have been drooling through the night and his lip is all bashed and swollen too 😢 but he is back to his happy self and doesn’t seem bothered at all though 🥰

just a shame he’s going to look a bit battered for our Christmas photos with Santa tomorrow 🫣 i feel like i now need to wrap him in bubble wrap 😂

Aww bless him, it sounds uncomfortable but at least he doesn’t seem bothered. I hope you still got nice Christmas pictures!

I was honestly so traumatised when our one did this - but I look back now and think wow, I can’t believe it’s all worked out okay. I hope all works out for you too xxx

I did this as a young child and knocked my bottom two teeth and they pointed out, the dentist straighten them. My adult teeth have little chips on the top of them but they are barely noticeable.
