Tooth out then straight back to school?

Seems a bit mean to me but that's what the dentist said. 15 year old is having his impacted baby tooth removed with the numbing injection and gas and air. It just seems really harsh to me to send him straight back to school. But I've already had a letter this term as my younger child's attendance isn't good so I'm a bit nervous about keeping him off school longer than necessary.

The dentist doesn't get to decide, ypu and your son do. See how he's feeling afterwards and take it from there.

Thank you. I just thought i would get into trouble with school if i kept him off longer than the dentist recommended.

Anyway we got to school in plenty of time and it took the school 25 minutes to locate him so appointment had to be cancelled and will be rebooked in the new year. Next time I will be keeping him off school before the appointment as well as after.

Oh no! That’s ridiculous he wasn’t allowed to just go down to the reception to wait for you! How annoying. Hope it all goes smoothly in the new year and he’s not in too much pain waiting

I would keep him home, definitely

Tell the dentist to bugger off it's nowt to do with them when your son goes to school. Also tell school to shove it too- the only thing that matters is your son's health. Good luck.xx

Back in my day... different country... we had a dentist visit my primary school in what I can only describe as a caravan parked in the playground.

All the kids would take time out of class to see the dentist.

I had 10 baby teeth taken out in the caravan in one visit, without a parent present (though they had consented) and then went back to class. I remember it because of the several injections in the roof of my mouth which really hurt. But I got to keep the teeth, so that was cool. This was all to prevent expensive braces. And it didn't work.

I don't imagine that would happen today.

Oh no! Why wasn't he allowed to just wait for you at reception at the right time? Or indeed just leave and meet you outside?
Hope you don't have to wait too long for a new appointment

I had 7 teeth out as a teen (mostly baby teeth that wouldn’t fall out) and was fine to go back to school. Numbing and gas and air wear off quickly

That is absolutely shocking. It is so difficult to get dental treatment these days, you must be furious.

I just saw your update. That's very poor of the school.

The school can't really complain for you keeping him off for the whole day after that.
