Idiopathic short stature

My son is 8 years old and 120cm (3rd centile). When he was 2 he was on the 25th centile then dropped to 2nd we think at about 4 years old. That’s when we first saw the GP, finally today we had our appointment with the paediatric endocrinologist at BCH. Stim test 1 peaked at 5.3 and the glucagon test peaked at 10.6. So based on second result he is not Growth hormone deficient. My husband is on 98th centile and I am 25th so he is below what he should be.

He doesn’t qualify for genetic screening at present as it’s expensive for NHS there’s a strict criteria for it. So the cause is idiopathic apparently in the US this would be treated with growth hormone but not in the UK.
the consultant said he might catch up in puberty he might just be small. His predicted adult height 5ft4 if continues on this line. Has anybody experienced any similar? Did your child ‘catch up’ It’s a worry.

You might find it helpful to join the Child Growth Foundation group on FB.

I don't have any experience of this type of issue as my DS is GH deficient...but just reading that the cut off for idiopathic short stature (10) is somewhat arbitrary.

At least he's 8 - so if you do decide to push for treatment somehow there's still time.
