Tonsillitis

My 3 year old was sent home early from nursery today because he spiked a 40c temp. He's had a few other issues lately so we got him into the gp. She could see puss on his tonsils and thinks tonsillitis and gave us 10 days anti biotics.

He's had an extremely runny nose and bad cough, but he's had this basically non stop since he started nursery. He doesn't seem to be in any pain which I thought was the main thing with tonsillitis? It always was for my brother who is prone to it. Will we be lucky and get through it with mild symptoms or is he likely to wake up tomorrow feeling much worse? He's very delayed with communication so can't really verbalise how he's feeling.

I had my tonsils removed when I was 3 so I've never had tonsillitis so no idea how it usually presents really.

my daughter had it since she was 2 until about the age of 8/9 then she grew out of it. we was boarder line to get her them out but covid happen then she never got it. but her symptoms were not a sore throat it was always a sore belly and being sick. the consultant said its unusual but happens as the same lymph nodes in your throat are in your belly which get infected which is why she was always sick and sore belly instead of a sore throat.

My dd had constant tonsillitis until they were removed at age 5. The smell was always the give away, her breath was awful. This with a high temperature and she was just wiped out with it for a few days. Antibiotics cleared it quickly - until the next time.
