Hi, I wouldn’t rush to the hospital, give antihistamine. Keep an eye on temperature. No other worrying symptoms then I wouldn’t worry.

MuteDS · 24/11/2025 03:56

He is itching them ? And they look like something I never seen before 😭

The antihistamine will help with the itchiness and if he’s otherwise ok then I would just observe and ring GP in the morning.
Saying this, I am a nurse whose own child had a fractured wrist for over a week before I believed him and took him to A&E so…
If you are really worried, there is nothing wrong with getting him to hospital to get checked over.

LakeFlyPie · 24/11/2025 04:03

DS had this after flu when he was younger. Looks like viral urticaria, can he have /do you have antihistamines? Cold compresses may help the itching. Don't think it's an emergency if he's ok other than rash. You could ring 111 for advice.

Can you look up 'hives' on the NHS app, or just google 'hives'. I haven't seen any for a long time, so I can't remember if that is what they look like, but when I saw your photo, that is what came straight into my mind! If it is hives, I think we used to put calomine lotion on to them, and give antihistamines. But again, the NHS app, or google would be much more up to date about what they are, and how to treat them! I hope this helps and isn't a waste of your time 💐

Agree with others - give antihistamine and see how he is in the morning if he’s otherwise fine in himself.

Iocanepowder · 24/11/2025 04:11

I wouldn’t take him to a&e yet. Rashes with a virus are common. If he is generally ok then let him sleep and maybe contact GP in morning. And yes give antihistamine.

CarlaLemarchant · 24/11/2025 04:12

I can’t work out how to answer your poll as yes I think the bumps are normal (ish), no I don’t think you need to go to hospital.

Im not a medic but both me and my dd have come out in these hives at various points. Not frequently but I think as a reaction to illness and/or heat. Anti histamine and Aveeno cream helped me.

If it was me I would ring the GP in the morning unless his temperature spikes.

@MuteDS sorry, I don't know how to link to this, but
https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/hives/ (ooh, I think I just did!!)
picture number 4 looks similar to your photo I think?

Raised, patchy rash from hives, shown on white skin. Some patches are round with a darker outline and pale pink centre.

Hives

Find out about hives (also called urticaria), which is a raised, itchy rash that's usually caused by a reaction to things like food, pollen, insect bites or chemicals.
