My daughter has just turned 1 and has been unwell the last 6 weeks she’s had one illness after another and was in hospital 10 days with pneumonia. She has lost a lot of weight and when the hv checked she’d dropped a centile and is now between the 9th and the 25th. She is very fussy with food and doesn’t eat much at all will often refuse or push me away. She does enjoy finger foods and will eat junk (biscuits crisps etc) but nothing substantial and I will often give in and give her that because I don’t want her eating nothing as she’s lost so much weight. She was EBF but I have since switched to cows milk and formula to try and add calories as they contain more. It’s really upsetting to see how much weight she’s lost and I know it’s mainly down to her being unwell but her appetite just isn’t coming back and I’m not sure what to do to help her out on weight. Any help appreciated!

This is what happened to my now 3 year old. At 1 he just went all weird about food. No matter what I've tried I never have been able to get him eating the way he did at first when he ate everything. Though he's now on the pathway for assessment for autism so that's possibly why. Just bumping for you because I know how stressful and scary it is when they just won't eat. Hopefully someone comes along who's had success with something 🤞

Can you add calories to the foods she will eat? So if she will only have a couple of spoons of porridge for breakfast make it with cream and nut butter? Or add cream and cheese to pasta sauce? Or make your own cakes and biscuits low sugar but calorie dense with lots of butter and maybe oat flour and nut powders to be healthier?

I also make my children a homemade Nutella that’s probably pretty calorie dense, dates, hazelnuts, cocoa powder and coconut oil. Maybe you can use something like this on toast? Not perfect t but better than processed food.

This is exactly the advice a wonderful HV gave me with my daughter. She said nutrition is great but they NEED calories at this age so just try and add calorific food to things your DD will eat.
